Leading With Empathy
ABC volunteers are champions of diversity, equity and inclusion work, not only in our roles promoting equity in education, but also through initiatives to enhance awareness for justice in our greater community.
We are proud to announce that ABC Board member Sandis Wright has been selected to be a member of The Town of Andover’s newly established Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The Commission will work to combat the realities of racism and intolerance across Andover by supporting programs, initiatives, education, outreach, policies and institutional change to create an inclusive Andover, a community which embraces inclusiveness and respect for all.
The commission includes 5 individuals (at large) who live or work in Andover along with other stakeholders representing clergy, youth, Andover High School, Phillips Academy, Andover Police Department and liaisons from the Andover Select Board and School Committee. Learn more about Andover DIVERSE and its membership on the Town’s Website.
Mr. Wright has extensive experience in civic engagement, community organization work and corporate diversity, equity and inclusion. At his work at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, he is a member of the Diversity Council Operations Committee and co-leads the PRIDE LGBT Employee Resource Group. In our local Andover community, he currently serves on the Culture and Climate Committees for Bancroft Elementary and Doherty Middle schools, including serving on the respective PAC/PTO boards. Earlier this year, he organized the first annual town-wide Andover Public Schools community service day held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
He looks forward to examining town policies, practices and institutional biases, and devising proposals to shine a light on solutions and drive essential outcomes.
Kudos to Sandis for accepting this call to action that will help deliver greater accountability in promoting social justice in our community.
