Abby Chooses Bentley
ABC graduating senior Abby is thrilled to share that she has chosen to matriculate at Bentley University where she plans to study business. Abby’s academic breadth and her ability to focus on her coursework as it became progressively more challenging each year, will serve her well as she continues her education. She is excited to be headed to Boston, which she recognizes is a great college city and also close to her ABC community with whom she has strong ties.
Abby has been selected to be a Bentley University FirstGen Presidential Fellow. This selective program, offered to just 15 first-year students, recognizes outstanding leadership accomplishments and her potential for future leadership greatness. We are not at all surprised that Abby has received this honor as she has excelled academically and in her extracurricular activities, as well as sharing her leadership in the ABC house.
As a student in this prestigious program, Abby will have access to faculty mentorship to work on a community-based issue along with the opportunity to participate in leadership development through workshops, networking and career development. In addition, the program includes a no-loan financial aid award to cover her cost of attendance through her time as an undergraduate student. Bentley is fortunate to receive a fabulous student who combines academic achievements and empathy for others.
President Gaby Nossiff recalls Abby coming to our program all the way from Los Angeles without having ever seen Andover when she was only 13 years old! Since the first day she arrived, Abby has had an extraordinarily positive impact on the program and her classmates at Andover High School. She is an extremely passionate, curious learner who enjoys studying diverse subjects.
There is so much about her time here in Andover that Abby will miss. She shared that certainly she will miss all of the people first and foremost, the girls, the ABC staff and volunteers, and her amazing host family. She also reflected fondly on her connection to her friends she formed through her Chinese studies. “I’ll miss my Chinese class, my favorite class, we stayed together as a cohort for all four years and really got to know one another.”
And there are the humorous times she shared with her housemates. Laughingly she remembered the time she burned a cookie in the microwave. She and Gabby had to open all the windows to clear the smoke out and then had to go to Show Choir smelling like smoke. “Apparently 1 minute is too long to warm up a cookie,” she said while chuckling, “I think 7 seconds would have been about right.”
Abby is very grateful for her parents and family for supporting her through her journey. Congratulations to our motivated, intelligent and compassionate Scholar, Abby!
